Okay, okay...

I'm *trying* to work on my messages. The number of deviations is the worst part, so I'm mostly concentrating on getting that number down right now.

In other news...
My mom & I volunteered at Houston's Pride Festival a couple weekends ago. I stole my mom's camera for 80% of the parade, but the rest of the day I used my dad's old SLR.
Unfortunately, in my hurry to get downtown and enjoy the festival, I grabbed the wrong film...which means, CVS can't develop it.
And I don't have the time or resources to develop my own film..so I brought it to Wolf and they sent it out for me. It should take a couple weeks before I get it back, which is killing me. I would really like to see the results of the day.

I've also gotten offered two wedding gigs for this summer because of that wedding I did back in March. Apparently, due to my friend showing off her photos, I'm kind of being pimped out...but, it's exciting.
Technically, one isn't a wedding so much as it is a reception. Apparently, the couple already eloped. But, it's all the same to me...I get to get more experience under my belt.

On Friday, I was at a birthday party with a bunch of theater kids, and I very well may have a couple headshot gigs coming up from them since they'll be auditioning for things. Funny thing, I actually got called after the party by another friend from theater, and she asked if I could do her temporary headshots until she got some done by a professional. Of course, I can't turn down a friend...or, the experience.

I'm probably skipping town on Wednesday to go to my dad's to fish and hang out with my brother.

The next thing on my agenda, is working towards getting my own dSLR. Preferably a d80, since I was talked into it.

Crazy.

My brother is getting his BA on Saturday after working his ass off like crazy for it.
It's been a crazy couple of weeks...getting ready to fly to California, my aunt from Tennessee visiting...going to Austin on a whim (OMG GREATEST NIGHT EVER..remind me to tell you guys about it.)

I still owe Club Photo one more feature of the third place person from the ID contest, but I'll do that when I come back.
For now, I'm doing this to get rid of the other feature since they're all on "one week" times.
Plus, to let you guys know...yes, I've been a horrible person and basically neglecting DA again...

I've been crazy busy, sorry.
When I get back from California, I should be back into the swing of things...there will be no more extended trips or family coming into town. (until August, when I may go to Alaska.)
Everything else will be just events of a few hours.

So yeah, summer's here. Huzzah!

update - feb 20 - First of all, thanks for the great show of interest so far! I apologize for not getting back to everyone yet. I'm working a few news releases and detailed FAQ's. If you sent me a message, I will reply, just give me a few more days to work out some kinks.

Edit: please help spread the word about this project by posting a journal and linking back or reposting this entry! thanks <3

:bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple:

I. Summary

I'm excited to announce the first project of Art FTW, a brand new creativity-driven charity organization based on the belief that art is not conspicuous consumption but an essential element of life. Call me cheesy, but I really do believe that art is as close to magic as we can get :3

For our premier project, I (and hopefully other unfortunate slaves enthusiastic volunteers) will be releasing a full-color art book entitled "For you. For me." featuring contributions from artists all over the world. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charity organizations and funds. Here's where I will beg shamelessly ask for your help. (man, you'd think that a college student like myself would be able to use the backspace button. tsktsk.)

II. Project Specifics

Before we get to the to-do list, here's some specs of the project that I've already decided on. They can still be changed if I suggestions of better alternatives.
:bulletblue: Printing company: createspace.com - they offer much lower printing prices than lulu, blurb, or any other PoD company I've found to date.
:bulletblue: Book will be 8x10 inches, paper back, perfect bound.
:bulletblue: Number of Pages will be 60-100.

III. How to Help Out

These are the two ways to help out, please read the details of each task before applying for membership!

:bulletred: Artist member: for those interested contributing art and literature to the book.
:bulletblue: Online Street Team member: help us promote the project and, eventually, the finished product!

:bulletred: Artist Member :bulletred:

If you are interested in drawing or writing something for the artbook, please send me a note titled "Art FTW - Artist Application". PLEASE make sure you have some sample works in your deviantart gallery. I would also like the following information:

first name:
email:
what media you will most likely contribute:

Please do not start working on a piece until you get a response from me. I realize many of you are eager to help out, but I wouldn't want anyone to spend time working on a picture only to find out that we will not be able to include it.

:bulletblue: Online Street Team Member :bulletblue:

The street team will help promote our project through websites like deviantart, facebook, myspace, etc. Street team members will be essential for the success of this project because we can compile the most beautiful artbook ever known to man and not have a cent to donate to charity if no one knows about the project. I will really need help with this since I have very limited amount of free time to spread over this entire project, so I won't be able to concentrated too much on any one aspect.

Please send me a note with the subject "Art FTW - Street Team Application" with the following info:

first name:
email:
any suggestions on advertising methods:

IV. Ordering Information

We're a long way from opening pre-orders, but I can say that it is my goal to make this book available for $15-20 plus shipping.

If you want to be notified when pre-ordering opens, send me a note with the subject "Art AFT - Pre-orders"

thank you!

:bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple:

V. Legal Notice

Artists and writers (contributors) will retain all rights over the work they submit to Art FTW. Basically, Art FTW claims no rights or ownership over the work other than the right to print the work in the "For you. For me." art book. Contributors may be required to sign a contract with the above terms in order to participate.

Art FTW reserves the right to not include any submitted content if it is inappropriate for the project goals.

VI. Note from the editor

First off, I'd like to say that I started this project on the belief that even if you're at the end of your rope, you will always have something left to offer, and I sincerely hope that many many artists will join me in making this a successful effort.

Secondly, I'd like to address some issues that frequently come up in these types of online projects.

I will not abandon this project. It may move slowly because I am in college and sometimes real life gets in the way, but I will push on with the project, so I ask for your patience and support <3

Don't accuse me of running a scam if you haven't asked me for proof. I strive to be as transparent as possible with all transactions concerning this project, but, because this is done over the internet, you will have to have some faith in me. If you don't feel comfortable participating, I encourage you to start your own charity project. Honestly, there are always people in need, and you can ALWAYS find somewhere to help out! :3

Drama. I won't stand for it and I won't deal with it. I'll just block people. End of story.

Thank you for your interest, and I hope to see every one of contributing in some way! :3

A few important points:

:bulletred: Artist applications are due March 22nd. This is JUST the application to be in the book, not your finished piece. All you have to submit is contact info and samples of past works.
:bulletred: Looking for street team (STeam! :3) members!
:bulletred: Looking for two or three Myspace admins to maintain a myspace page.

details are on the website, go have a look! [link]
